Primary Medical Care in a federally funded HIV/AIDS Grant

From April 2005 through to the present, the Northeast Holistic Center Belleville NJ has been assisting the HIV/AIDS Community in the Newark Eligible Metropolitan Area under the Ryan White Title I Federal Grant with Reflexology and other natural therapies. As of March 2006, Reflexology has been funded as a part of Primary Medical Care to assist with “Treatment Adherence” for AIDS/HIV communities’ health care regime. A marked positive change and/or stabilization (to undetectable) in their CD4 count and viral load was attained in 90% of the cases last year. Each client was responsible to attended five (5) consecutive weeks of Natural Therapy sessions – one per week. Reflexology was one of the standard treatments received – repeated cycles were allowed after a short hiatus. Along with the specific goal of assisting in stress reduction and pain management to improve the patient’s immune function; many other disorders were addressed with great success. Reflexology home care protocols were taught to about 75% of the patients to assist them in home care follow-through. There was great success in associated neuropathy, knee problems, peripheral circulation problems and reduction of overall stress.
