Self help reflexology versus having someone work on you
Because the brain is interested in novel
information, it tends to discount sensations that result directly from our own
actions, such as when we touch one part of our body with another.
"Our senses are constantly
inundated with information from which the brain must select the most important
in order to guide our behavior. Because the brain is interested in novel
information, it tends to discount sensations that result directly from our own
actions, such as when we touch one part of our body with another. It has been
suggested that a brain mechanism predicts these sensory signals in advance and
attenuates them before they reach awareness. This may explain, for example, why
the sensation of tickling yourself feels so much weaker than that of someone
else tickling you." Source: Cell Press

People have always commented
that they would much rather have someone else apply reflexology then doing it
themselves. Now there maybe scientific research in the value of having
reflexology applied to you.
Would I abandon self help
reflexology? No, because even though the response maybe weaker there is still a
response. And you have access to yourself more of the time. Quantity versus
quality isn't the question. It is the accumulated effect of both signals on your
nervous system.The absolute
best combination is to do both. All
the best, Kevin
