My arches have fallen and I can't get them up
A high arch can develop what is called a "foot
fault" and collapse in response to stress. The change of weight bearing that
goes on during a pregnancy is just the sort of demand that can cause this
problem.
Hello,
I just had a difficult pregnancy
and delivered a beautiful healthy baby. My problem is that I used to have
beautiful arches in my feet and my arches have now fallen. I have heard
from many sources that fallen arches can never be reversed. The pain is
unbearable at times. My chiropractor has tried to help to no
avail.

I
think the funniest thing that ever happened in a class had to do with fallen
arches.
This woman
started yelling in class excitedly that she had her arches back. Sure enough she
had regain the arches that had disappeared over the years. The work during the
class had apparently stimulated the return of her
arches.
What a lot of
people don't understand is that a high arch and a low arch are cousins not
opposites. A high arch can develop what is called a "foot fault" and collapse in
response to stress. The change of weight bearing that goes on during a pregnancy
is just the sort of demand that can cause this
problem.
Strengthening
the foot is important. Rolling your foot on a simple foot roller can be
valuable. Or take a couple of golf balls in put them in old sock and you have a
pretty good foot roller. Roll the under the arch daily. If you can pull it off
several times a day is even
better.
Another approach
that has gain popularity is the old samurai technique of walking on bamboo. The
warriors would split some bamboo and walk on the rounded part. It lifts the
arch. You can do the same thing with PVC piping. Again split it so you have a
rounded surface to walk
on.
Always work within
your "comfort zone". Too much challenge can actually be too demanding and
can be
counterproductive.
Any
foot strengthening exercise like "toe raises" are also
helpful.
Hope that
helps. Thank you for your query. Hope that
helps.
All the
best,
Kevin
